Is 'Superman' coming home? Everything we know about 'Superman' sequel 'Man of Tomorrow'

James Gunn's Superman swoops into Ohio this summer >>>

Looks like Superman is flying home to Ohio this summer.

In early January, nearly $2 million in Ohio Film Tax Credits were awarded to Warner Bros Discovery for a feature film titled Exodus. Exodus is widely believed to be the production code name for Man of Tomorrow, filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel to 2025's Superman.

Hard to refute, too, when the film tax credit application contains the same contact information as Superman. Per the application, James Gunn is listed as director. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan - Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively - are listed as principal casting directors, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. A little odd, we admit. Chalk it up to a typo?

S&K Pictures, Inc., which shares an address with Warner Bros., and Lex Pascual, vice president of production incentives at Warner Bros. Discovery, applied for the tax credit in January.

Lex Luthor and Superman team up in 'Man of Tomorrow'

What is Man of Tomorrow About?

Man of Tomorrow is as much a story about Lex Luthor as it is Superman, according to Gunn. “It’s about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together against a much, much bigger threat.”

That threat, presumably, is Brianiac.

Brainiac is one of Superman’s most iconic villains, often portrayed as a hyper-intelligent alien or artificial intelligence obsessed with knowledge and control.

In many versions of Brainiac's origin story, Brainiac travels from world to world, shrinking and collecting entire cities to preserve them as specimens while destroying the rest of the planet. One of his most infamous acts is capturing Kandor, the Kryptonian capital city, which he keeps miniaturized in a bottle.

Because of his cold, analytical mindset and vast technological power, Brainiac represents a very different kind of threat to Superman. Not brute strength, but a calculating intelligence that sees civilizations as data to catalog rather than lives to protect.

It will be the fourth film of the DC Universe and the seventh installment of Gunn’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters DCU storyline. It is also a narrative follow-up to events in the second season of Peacemaker, Gunn’s HBO superhero show.

Union Terminal in Cincinnati, inspiration for the Hall of Justice

When will Exodus/Man of Tomorrow film in Ohio?

The first pre-production date is June 15, with a wrap date of Aug. 21. Only five of those days are set for production, with 61 spent prepping.

Where will Exodus/Man of Tomorrow film in Ohio?

Cincinnati will likely be Man of Tomorrow’s primary Ohio location. Though there’s no official word on where the film will shoot in Cincinnati, odds are the production will return to Union Terminal.

Union Terminal is Cincinnati’s iconic Art Deco train station, built between August 1929 and March 1933. It was the inspiration for Super Friends artist Al Gumer’s animated Hall of Justice.

It also served as the Justice Gang’s headquarters in Superman.

On the 2024 set of 'Superman' in Cleveland

Why will Exodus/Man of Tomorrow shoot in Ohio for only five days?

The production is spending less time in Ohio than it did for Superman. To compare, Superman’s tax credit was around $12 million, and it spent six weeks shooting in Cleveland. Man of Tomorrow will shoot for five days on $2 million in film tax incentives.

If it surprises you that Man of Tomorrow is only shooting for five days when the production is set to spend 61 days in Cincinnati, you’re not alone. There’s a good reason, though. Productions often spend several weeks in a location preparing before filming begins.

During that time, film crews typically handle a wide range of pre-production work, like location scouting, securing permits, preparing sets, organizing wardrobe and props, rehearsing scenes, hiring local crew members, and coordinating logistics.

Superman extra Josie Wilka

How can I be an extra in Exodus/Man of Tomorrow?

Angela Boehm Casting booked background actors for Superman, so the casting agency will likely work with Gunn and his crew on Man of Tomorrow.

That said, it’s always good to keep up with casting news from regional agencies.

Everything we know about ‘Eenie Meanie’ on set in Cleveand, Toledo and Sandusky

Samara Weaving as Edie in 'Eenie Meanie' Before James Gunn and the cast and crew of Superman took over Cleveland, another star-studded feature film was laying claim to the sights and sounds and gritty streets of Northeast Ohio: Shawn Simmons Eenie Meanie , debuting today on Hulu. While both films tell the tale of a misunderstood hero just trying to live an honest life, each production brought an entirely different vibe to Cleveland’s neighborhoods. And I say this from personal experience. As a cinephile working downtown during Superman ’s shoot, getting a peek behind the scenes was an exercise in watching from a distance, peering through second-story grocery store windows, or finding hidden spots in parking decks looking over Progressive Field. Eenie Meanie ? Well, all you had to do was ask, and the crew would point you to a good spot on set to watch the action. The set was so open and friendly on the one day I went exploring in Ohio City, I was too self-conscious to take pictu...
